The person behind the files
Who's Chris Lockhart?

Hi, I'm Chris. I built Kit & File, I write the guides, and I personally deliver every service on this site.
For most of my career, I've been the person companies call when a business or technology problem is important, messy, and stuck. I've done that work as an enterprise architect, a strategy consultant, and a senior director at advisory firms, for organizations like UnitedHealth Group, Pfizer, State Street, and Signet Jewelers. These days a lot of it is data and AI: figuring out where AI actually helps, where it doesn't, and what to do first.
The biggest lesson from all of it? Technology is rarely the real problem. People are. I believed that enough to write a book about it, The People Problem (2017). I also host Consultants Saying Things, a video podcast where practitioners talk plainly about consulting, technology, AI, and how work really gets done. We've made more than 80 episodes since 2018.
Kit & File is where I take what I've learned in big boardrooms and make it useful for small teams. The kits are built for owner-led businesses, like bookkeepers, property managers, recruiters, and creators, who want AI, messaging, and productivity systems that work without wading through theory. Every kit tells you exactly which files you get. There's no subscription, and buying a download never signs you up for a consulting retainer. If you want me in the room, the services are fixed-scope, and I do the work myself.
A few other things about me: I was born in Nova Scotia (and I'm still Canadian), served in the U.S. Army as a combat medic, studied history at Boston University, and started my career in Boston during the first internet bubble. Now I live in Greenville, South Carolina, with my wife, four kids, two dogs, and a bird. So yes, I'm comfortable with a little chaos.
